Giverny: colors in the gardens and in the paintings of Manguin at the museum

The house and the gardens of Claude Monet in Giverny will close on November 5th until March 23rd 2018. There are still two months to enjoy them and in much better conditions than in July or August. You will not have to wait on line so long and the house will not be as crowded as in the middle of the Summer. The gardens are still full of colors in the Fall, with plenty of seasonal flowers.

But there is another interesting place to visit in Giverny, the museum of the Impressionists.

Until November 5 th, it’s hosting a very interesting exhibition on the painter MANGUIN who was a good example of what “fauvism” represented. He was a friend of Matisse, one of the leaders of this new painting movement, at the beginning of the 20 th century. He became famous very quickly and collectors from all over the world bought his paintings. They loved the way he used the pure colors, painted women with sensuousness, landscapes, especially the ones from St Tropez he had discovered with Matisse, illuminated by the very bright light which can be found there. He also painted scenes of the daily life, but always with a sense of happiness.

After WWI, he was a little forgotten and this exhibition is a way to rediscover him, in a beautiful little museum, where you will be able to admire the paintings at a leisure pace.
